Catalogue text
A field of red and white medallions with brown outlines against a white ground; on two sides are border bands with white and red dots, as well as red arches on a white ground.
Selvedge. The reverse shows very little dye saturation. The fabric is coarsely woven, the design crudely applied. The comment on the original card was 'second half 15th-16th century'; more likely is an 18th-century date. In: Barnes, Ruth, Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2 vols (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997)
