Cup with guri scrolling design

Details

  • Catalogue text

Small 'Guri' lacquer cup, on a wooden matrix with metal lining. The lacquer applied in layers of different colours is carved in a formal design to show off the striped effect. Although more popular in Japan, as the name suggests, guri type decoration is not uncommon in Chinese lacquer.
