Textile fragment with bandhani, or tie-dye, imitation and rosettes

Details

  • Catalogue text

A grid of dots, three rows deep and simulating tie-dye (bandhani), with an eight-petalled rosette in the centre of each square. The resist defines the design.

Selvedge and remains of stitching that indicate a seam along and at right angles to the selvedge. Some overlapping and repetition of inaccuracies in the design identify the block size as 14 cm. x 8.5 cm.
