Textile fragment with rosettes, dots, and squares

Details

  • Catalogue text

Eight-petalled rosettes with a dot at the centre, single dots, and clusters of four small squares, which can be read as one large square with a blue cross inside. The rosettes have four long and four short leaves, which gives them a square rather than circular outline. The fragment is similar to Cat. no. 76 [EA1990.84]. The resist defines the design, the background is blue.

A disjuncture in the otherwise regular, linear design is evidence of a block edge. The size cannot be determined.
